Heart, Alejandro Escovedo

When: Sun., Oct. 14, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: $40-60

It's been a big year for legendary sister act Heart: Before releasing Fanatic earlier this month, co-leaders Ann and Nancy Wilson dropped a retrospective box set and published their joint autobiography. Fanatic is the band's 14th studio album, but vintage Heart fans will find much to appreciate. Recalling the taut muscle of classic rock staples such as "Barracuda" and "Crazy on You," the disc thrives on beefy blues-rock infused with just enough psychedelic haze to balance unpredictability and accessibility. Big Station, the latest from Texas singer-songwriter and bandleader Alejandro Escovedo, who opens the show, is an ambitious amalgamation of influences that run from roots-rock to glam. —Spencer Griffith
