Harvey Sue, Those Lavender Whales, Clinton Johnson

When: Sun., March 18, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

The Columbia, S.C., outfit Those Lavender Whales should feel at home in Durham. Their fuzzy, catchy folk balances cuteness with experimental flourishes and a classically honed sense of melody—a melange that locals such as Midtown Dickens and Baobab know a lot about. It's appropriate, then, that Dickens member Catherine Edgerton is on the bill with her solo project, Harvey Sue; her blown-out lo-fi nuggets lend a fractured, stripped-back feel to the tuneful ballads and warming warble she brings to the band. Schooner's Reid Johnson opens with his side project, Clinton Johnson. —Jordan Lawrence
