Happy Times

When: Sun., Aug. 8, 7 p.m. 2010
Price: $20

The Rialto—Cinema Inc. concludes its 2009–10 season with this 2002 film from Zhang Yimou, most recently celebrated as the director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics. Zhang's most famous films have been historical melodramas starring his one-time wife, Li Gong, but Happy Times is a comedy. It revolves around a retired worker who converts an abandoned bus into a hotel for couples in need of privacy in a misguided effort to fund his dream wedding, but he develops an unexpected relationship with a blind girl he hired as a masseuse. The screening is $20 as part of the subscription package (although prorated memberships are available) and takes place at 7 p.m. —Zack Smith
