Hammer No More the Fingers, Canine Heart Sounds, Tartufi

When: Sat., April 13, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $6-$10

San Francisco trio Tartufi makes incredibly involved pop music, with layers of complicated rhythms and gossamer vocals pushing into and pulling out of intricate knots. On "Furnace of Fortune," the highlight of their recent LP These Factory Days, they do this for eight minutes, cresting in brief climaxes that tease at transcendence before the band slinks away. Like a drum circle gone rogue with direction, Tartufi builds heady music from simple surprises. Hammer No More the Fingers headlines, while Canine Heart Sounds—a playful-but-purposeful junkyard folk-and-jazz band that's recently relocated from Duluth, Minn., to Durham—takes the middle. —Grayson Currin
