When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars, you can catch the Public Theatre's revival of the musical that brought the counterculture movement to the Broadway stage. This new revival has helped remind audiences of the themes of confusion and anti-authority sentiment that made the original a classic, along with some still-toe-tapping tunes. (Admittedly, the promise of the flower child generation has given way to whiny bloggers and those godless flannel-wearing hipsters who make me wish I carried bear mace every time I visit downtown Asheville.) The classic "American Tribal Love-Rock Musical" has reached a new audience with its free-flowing tale of a tribe of hippies who like their locks long, straight, curly, fuzzy, snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty, oily, greasy, fleecy, shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen, knotted, polka-dotted, twisted, beaded, braided, powdered, flowered and confetti-ed, bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied. So say good morning to the starshine, greet the dawning of the Age of Aquarius and let the sun shine in with this production, which continues through Sunday. —Zack Smith
