Hadwynn CD release, Ethnographers, The Future Is Me, Lion in Winter

When: Thu., Jan. 12, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $5-8

The biography for Raleigh alt-rock outfit Hadwynn hearkens back to the era before recorded sound, longing for music as "a more personal experience based around community" and "personal stories." The description brings to mind old-time styles and minimal amplification, but that's far from the case here. The group's dramatic orchestrations are cut through by melancholic distortion, riding enormous melodies. Their music is neither old-fashioned nor revolutionary, but it is personal. The Ethnographers, The Future is Me and The Lion in Winter join them to celebrate their new LP, Monuments. —Jordan Lawrence
