Fiscal responsibility means ensuring you are in a financially healthy position in order to respond to unforseen circumstances. With this runaway state legislature, that is even more important. I respectfully disagree with some of my BOC friends' position on this, and they with me. Some '14 commissioners can rightfully point to two years of honoring campaign promises to better support our school system. This budget does not come close to that tradition, and because I cannot honor *my* '16 campaign promise to Wake's voters and taxpayers, I will not vote in support of this budget as it stands. This is more than a simple disagreement about accounting practices. Elections matter and their results should be respected as an expression of the values and will of the voters.
