Gray Young, Tone, Static is a City

When: Sat., Nov. 1, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $6-$8
The Washington, D.C., quintet TONE is a long-running, ever-evolving force of instrumental nature. In years past, they’ve swelled to nearly 10 members, integrated dancers into their set and reveled in a pursuit of bombast. Their latest material, though, depends on a breathtaking and invigorating economy, a rarity in the world of post-rock. They share it with Gray Young, a Raleigh trio who like to couch climaxes in proper rock-song form. —Grayson Haver Currin
