Gramatik, Cherub, HeRobust

When: Wed., April 24, 9:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $25

Brooklyn-by-way-of-Slovenia beat-tweaker Gramatik celebrates the gasping samples of hip-hop, the fearless thump of in-the-red electro and the ambient glow of chilled-out ambience, all at once. His most recent EP, #DigitalFreedom, sprints from laser-funk synths to gabber-aggressive dance, invoking everyone from DJ Shadow to Kavinsky along the way. The EP also functions as an aural thesis on Internet free culture—a crucial concern not only for Gramatik, who makes his living mining other people's audio, but for any young person aware of the tenuous nature of artistic freedom in the Internet era. With Cherub and HeRobust. —Brandon Soderberg
