God of Carnage

When: June 19-23 and June 26-30 2013
Price: $22-25

Yasmina Reza's comedy of manners boils down to a parental horror story: One kid hurts another kid, so two sets of parents meet up to civilly figure out a solution. Let's put "civilly" in quotes—as the evening progresses, tensions surge and tempers flare, and before we know it, amid irrational arguments and accusations of misogyny and racism, the parents are revealed to be as childish as the kids. There's also a horrific moment involving a bodily malfunction that makes me cringe just thinking about it. God of Carnage won a Tony for Best Play in 2009; Roman Polanksi also directed a film adaptation, Carnage, in 2011. —Emma D. Miller
