Glands, North Elementary

When: Tue., Nov. 8, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $12

After releasing a couple of excellent albums at the turn of the millennium, The Glands caught a wave of buzz that included mainstream media spotlights, tours with Modest Mouse and The Shins, and endorsements from the Drive-By Truckers' Patterson Hood, who refers to the band's self-titled sophomore disc as one of his all-time favorites. The Glands are from Athens, Ga.—frontman Ross Shapiro owned that town's recently closed Schoolkids Records—and they reunited there a month ago after a seven-year hiatus. The group's smart, shape-shifting indie rock is as relevant as ever; its quirky flairs and sharp hooks funnel into a mix of raw rock, '80s anthems and home-style jangle. —Spencer Griffith
