It seems somewhat more likely that City Council will grant Rothschild's latest request, given that earlier this year he hired Don Moffitt. Moffitt is the Chairman of the Durham Planning Commission and he played an important part in acquiring the zoning change that allowed Rothschild to build at Heritage Square. It is unfortunate for Durham tax payers that City Council cannot see through this obvious conflict of interest. I have had the displeasure of sitting through several presentations given by Rothschild. He tries very hard to present himself as someone who is motivated out of concern for the community, but his actions suggest that he is an opportunist influenced by greed.
