GHOST, Marissa Nadler

When: Mon., Nov. 7, 8 p.m. 2016
Price: $28
The Grammy-winning Swedish band Ghost has all of its shock-rock tropes checked. It’s risen to acclaim with big, arena-ready hooks buttressing sharp, melodic pop-metal even as the band revels in sacrilegious imagery and costuming, borrowing the Satanic theatricality of Scandinavian metal peers, and dressing it in a pop veneer. The band stops in Raleigh supporting the glossy new Popestar EP. But more beguiling, even, than the headliner is the unlikely opener. Marissa Nadler’s delicate, haunting folk tunes are an atmospheric complement to metal’s darkness, but their quiet and contemplative setting stands in stark contrast to Ghost’s bombast. —Bryan C. Reed
