Gene Ween, Absent Lovers

When: Fri., Sept. 25, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $17-$20
Ween—one of the weirdest, least likely bands of the alternative rock era—broke up in 2012, ending a 28-year run of enduring cult success. Dabbling in funk, R&B, country, hard psych-rock and AIDS jokes, Ween was well ahead of the Internet Age curve for eclectic genre interests and hardcore trolling. Both core members continue to tour, but having come out the other side of some serious substance abuse issues, Gene Ween, né Aaron Freeman, provides the sweet redemption story. His recent live sets have leaned heavily on Ween classics, with some solo material mixed in. —Jeff Klingman
