G-Eazy, Skizzy Mars

When: Mon., Feb. 4, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $12-14

G-Eazy may still don an American Graffiti hairdo, but his recent Must Be Nice LP sounds nothing like his 2011 breakout single "Runaround Sue," a hip-hop reimagining of Dion's 1961 doo-wop hit of the same name. Instead, this New Orleans-via-Oakland self-produced rapper scatters his perky metaphors, paranoias, lusts and accomplishments all over dampened trap beats. He's a pair of Balenciaga jeans that are too cool for Macklemore's thrift shop practicality, and he's a Loyola University degree too smart for Drake's crybaby exploits. Skizzy Mars opens. Tickets are $12–$14 for the 8:30 pm show. Visit local506.com. —Eric Tullis
