Fuzz, CCR Headcleaner, Big No

When: Thu., Oct. 10, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $8-10
Ty Segall directs his proto-metal power trio, Fuzz, from behind the drum kit, offering a refreshingly meat-headed change of pace from the jangly introspection of his latest solo turn, Sleeper. On FUZZ's debut long-player, Segall moans and hollers behind a lumbering charge of Blue Cheer riffs, refracted by the psychedelic sense of fellow Californians Thee Oh Sees. Segall's an able motor, but bassist Roland Cosio and guitarist Charlie Moothart play equally vital roles.

Fellow San Franciscans CCR Headcleaner are along for the tour, with noise-battered psych-rock that, for all its abstract impulses, holds onto its rock-anthem momentum. Openers Big No—who split citizenship between San Francisco and Richmond, Va.—feel subdued for this beefy bill, but Nathan Grice's churning pop delivers a vision skewed enough to stand up to the show's loud-rock current. —Bryan C. Reed
