Futurebirds, Avers, Old Quarter

When: Fri., Oct. 17, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $10-$13
The Athens, Georgia, cosmic country rockers of Futurebirds alight at an intersection of tuneful balladry and woozy psychedelica, a stop frequented by Neil Young and My Morning Jacket. Their Baba Java EP showcases a willingness to push their sound’s boundaries, whether with the crisp dream-pop of “Power of the V” or the Stones-channeling boogie of “Heart Attack Blues.” It documents their native R.E.M. love with a pretty, pedal-steel take on “(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville.” —Chris Parker
