Fresh Docs Series: Works in Progress

When: Fri., Feb. 22, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

What springs to mind when you think about Kinston, N.C.? The failed Global TransPark project, which left a legacy of broken economic promises and those annoying GTP license plates? Or, on a much more positive note, is it the much-praised Chef and the Farmer restaurant, a recent semifinalist for a James Beard Foundation Award? Veteran documentarian Cynthia Hill gives a special sneak peek at Chef and the Farmer (working title), a television series still in production, which tells the story of how chef Vivian Howard left a burgeoning career in high-end New York City kitchens to return to her Kinston roots through a deal with her hog-farmer father. Themes of family, food and the South run through the series, which will move your heart and make you hungry. Co-sponsored by the Southern Documentary Fund and the Center for Documentary Studies, the screening will be followed by a moderated feedback session. —Chris Vitiello
