Freddy Greene

When: Fri., Nov. 13, 8 & 10 p.m. 2015
Price: $8
Freddy Greene is, for many, the face of Triangle jazz. The Franklinton, North Carolina, native studied at St. Augustine’s College and North Carolina Central University, which is all very well. But the “street genie” has also logged uncountable hours blowing sax on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and along other area strips. Compared with the darkness of a club or the raised safety of a stage, street playing is a more immediate laboratory. Greene knows how to put an extra kick in a person’s step. —Chris Vitiello
