Fred Eaglesmith & the Flying Squirrels

Fred Eaglesmith & the Flying Squirrels

When: Sat., June 19, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $15

The son of an Ontario farmer, Fred Eaglesmith makes Texas country as if it belonged in the Midwest. It moves to a heartland rock pulse rather than a western swing, stretched taut beneath his characters' gnawing concerns. It's the poetry of dull ache, like Springsteen. Eaglesmith's wit is dry, wry and unassuming, like his music, which often sketches a picture of what others blurt, be it the religious paranoia of 2008's gospel-inflected Tinderbox or the cloistered provincialism of Milly's Café. Pay $15 for the 8 p.m. show, and visit to find out how. —Chris Parker
