Fountains of Wayne, Stars Explode

When: Sat., Feb. 11, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $20-23

The long-running New Jersey power-pop underdogs Fountains of Wayne were unfortunately tagged by many as one-hit wonders after their unassailably magnetic hit about taboo teenage crushes, "Stacy's Mom," turned into a summer anthem back in 2003. That hook earned them records made of precious metals and considerable commercial appeal, an unlikely but ultimately unsustainable phenomenon for a band that had already broken up once. For last year's Sky Full of Holes, Fountains finally left the major labels for the area indie Yep Roc; appropriately, these 13 relentlessly catchy if somewhat monochromatic tunes often explore some of the nostalgia and regret inherent in the life of a band forever trying to make it. The Stars Explode open.—Grayson Currin
