Good caper movies require clockwork precision on the story level and charismatic performances from the leads. Will Smith's latest clunker has neither. Smith plays Nicky, a veteran con man whose ice-cold game is compromised by Jess, the femme-fatale newcomer played with sustained blankness by Margot Robbie. As the action swerves from New Orleans to Europe, the story gets both less interesting and less plausible. But the endeavor is largely torpedoed by Smith's performance. Instead of a lovable rogue—think Paul Newman in The Sting, or George Clooney in Ocean's Eleven—we get a preening movie star who keeps taking his shirt off. His abs are pretty amazing, though.
