Floating Action, Lazy

When: Sat., Oct. 18, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $7
Black Mountain musical auteur Seth Kauffman has been one of the state’s best vibe architects for a decade. The imprecise production and insouciant singing of his albums under the name Floating Action have long added a camouflaging blanket of comfort to incredibly sophisticated pop songs, each braided with touches of dub reggae, West African guitar and astral soul. His latest and first for New West Records, Body Questions, tightens the grip just a bit, the former fuzz transformed into bits of lint and the past torpor given a slight kick of tempo. As the name implies, Floating Action allows for simultaneous sing-alongs and float-alongs, riding a tide of feeling in a sea of form. —Grayson Haver Currin
