Flashlights, Josh Berwanger Band, Alpha Cop

When: Sun., May 31, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $8
Flashlights come from the central coast of Florida, but they prove the lasting influence of the Triangle. Singer Terry Caudill’s voice has the same nasal rasp as Mac McCaughan, and his songs thrum with the hyper-enough energy of Superchunk. Guitars refract at odd angles a la the sweet-tea jitters of Archers of Loaf, giving luster to Connells-on-steroids hooks. Flashlights slot comfortably within a pop-punk revival, but they’ve studied Chapel Hill’s lore, too. —Patrick Wall
