First Friday

When: Fri., May 7, 7 p.m. 2010
Price: free

It's First Friday in Raleighwood: Among the places we'll check out are Artspace (201 E. Davie St.), which opens a new exhibit dedicated to markings. Hedwig Brouckaert, Shaun Cassidy and Israel Davis display their works inspired by advertising, architecture and mixed-media installations. Self-taught artist Margaret Moore Senter (see below) receives a retrospective of her Artspace career. Elsewhere in the building, Jenny Eggleston explores orifices and James Henkel photographs spills. The venue opens at 6 p.m. DesignBox (323 W. Martin St.) features the first-ever PBaRt show and concert. The free event will showcase 17 local artists' works, three local bands, live graffiti and, naturally, PBR. We'll look for an exhibition of landscapes by Jack Cayton, Jacob Cooley, Henry Link, Gregory Smith and Christopher Stephens at Mahler Fine Art (228 Fayetteville St.). Elsewhere, N.C. State's Art and Design seniors will show off their work at the student-run Fish Market (133 Fayetteville St.). —Sarah Ewald
