This is a documentary about a photographer whose work went unseen during her lifetime but who is now concisdered one of the great street photographers of the 20th century. It raises more questions than it can fully answer but does provide a snapshot, as it were, of Maier's work and life. The film's tone can be annoying. Too often, she is portrayed as damaged, apparently because she didn't conform to gender roles. Still, there's enjoyment to be had in seeing her work and glimpsing the life behind it.
