Find Waldo Celebration

When: Wed., July 31, 6:30 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

The peak of popularity for Waldo (or Wally, as he's known in his native Britain) is long past from the days when there were actually "Where's Waldo" video games and cartoons (neither very good), but he's become synonymous with illustrations and finding a face in a crowd. Triangle businesses have been doing a monthlong celebration of Waldo by displaying him all over the area; it cumulates in this special celebration with drinks, a costume contest, prizes for people who found Waldo in 20 places or more, Waldo mask-making with HappyMess Art Studio and a new community mural where people can take pictures of themselves as Waldo. There is a similar Waldo party on Aug. 1 at Quail Ridge Books; check Facebook for different "Find Waldo" events in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill-Carrboro. —Zack Smith
