Fields of Mars, Gentle Robot, Henbrain

When: Sun., Dec. 29, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $3
Durham's Fields of Mars aptly brand their music "ambient post-rock." Drums and bass gel into lulling tides as the guitars navigate reverberating expanses. Henbrain's delivers its psych-rock with much more bravado. The riffs stride headlong, demanding that fists be pumped as singer Erika Libero sings of epic battles and righteous feelings. The appropriately named Gentle Robot opens with lofty anthems whose melodies hint at gnawing uncertainty. —Jordan Lawrence
