FIDLAR, Dune Rats

When: Tue., Sept. 29, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $15
Champions lauded the debut of Los Angeles punk band FIDLAR for its brash, melodic jangle and rambunctious verve. (See: “Cocaine” or “Cheap Beer.”) What else could have been expected from a band whose name, an acronym for skate-punk credo “Fuck it, dog, life’s a risk,” doubled as its raison d’etre? But the party-hard lifestyle almost killed Zac Carper, whose maniacally raw roar guides his band’s first-gen punk. Newly sober, Carper doesn’t need a 40-ounce beer (even if he still writes about them) to craft risk-taking tunes. Getting clean has led to an alluring new emphasis on nuance and arrangement. —Patrick Wall
