Family Sircle

When: Fri., Jan. 12, 7 & 9 p.m. 2018
Price: $13

The four singers in Family Sircle collectively represent decades of Durham soul history. Founder Edgar Saunders, who died in 2009, sang with numerous groups in the 1970s, including Blue Steam and The Modulations before forming Family Sircle in 1985. The current incarnation of the group is led by his brothers: Stanley, of the group Duralcha, and Jerome, of the Differences and Blue Steam. Rounding out the group are Pierce McKoy, who sang briefly with The Main Ingredient and now runs a shoeshine stand in downtown Durham, and Andy Peterson. That deep collective knowledge means the group really knows how to do soul and R&B right, with slick matching suits, tight choreography, and rich vocal harmonies that can sound like any point in the past fifty years. This is the ensemble's second show at Beyù in four months, a rare treat from a group that doesn't perform all that often these days. —Dan Ruccia
