Re: “Moogfest and The Art of Cool Both Asked Durham for Cash. How the City Responded Says a Lot About its Future.

The comment by "proudlyaffiliated" is worthy of being called that of a troll. Besides being clueless about how valiant and impressive Art of Cool's mere existence, let alone success, has been (corruption for a few thousand when a new white washed festival is given tens of thousands?? Please!), the comment is downright racist and hateful. People of color are what made Durham to begin with, and they are a large part of what continues to make Durham attractive, even as Durham tries to chase them away. They do and always have deserved a larger role than as "welcoming" in rich white people. As Art of Cool shows, they could actually have a leading role in making Durham truly great, authentic, and long standing - look at what they've done with little support! Imagine if they and others like them got at least half of what shiny, corporate driven events like Moog Fest get?

You cannot solve things if you don't address the problems. This is a problem, and I'm glad it's been brought up and I hope that the city continues to take steps to remedy it. Looking at actual numbers verses perceptions is a great, meaningful start.
