Estrangers, Body Games, Prypyat

When: Thu., May 16, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: Free
Winston-Salem quintet Estrangers undoubtedly will preview some of the bright pop-rock blasts from its forthcoming sophomore full-length at this show. They should sit well with Love Language fans and most anyone who appreciates boatloads of hooks and harmonies warmed with vintage production. Body Games is the latest venture from former Lake Inferior vocalist and keyboardist Dax Beaton, joined here by T0W3RS leader Derek Torres and former Love Language keyboardist/vocalist Kate Thompson. Together, they build decidedly downcast and definitely magnetic electropop. Local duo Prypyat pairs the fingerpicked acoustic guitar of Hammer No More the Fingers' Duncan Webster with the elegant cello swoops of Lost in the Trees' Leah Gibson, tying the instruments together with soaring harmonies. —Spencer Griffith
