Re: “NC Libertarians: Republican anti-voting bill "a nightmare for free elections"

The joke is not the Libertarian party, it's first past the post/"winner take all" voting. It was a great step in the right direction, but it's time for some changes. (More on the problems of "FPTP": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tWHJfhiyo)

Re: “goMarketNC Benefit with Ryan Gustafson, Steph Stewart & the Boyfriends

goMarket is a virtual farmers coop that lets customers shop online and build a custom box of veggies, meats and other local farm products. The advance ordering system helps the farmers know exactly how much to pick and reduce food waste. More importantly, we focus on helping farmers that can't get into the big farmers' markets (eg. Downtown Durham or Carrboro) and connect them to both households and restaurants. We're planning to open at the end of April and have pickups downtown and in West Durham every Thursday during the evening commute (eventually expanding to include more neighborhoods).

Re: “Community, city efforts slowly move urban agriculture forward

Thanks for covering this, Victoria!

I'm glad for the tentative support from the planning department and the elected officials, but like you said, progress seems slow.

Among things that seem odd is restricting sales to farmers within the county. I live in Orange county, but have a Durham address. Also there are rural counties, particularly to the north that would love better market access. Shutting them out of the markets doesn't necessarily help producers within the county.

Re: “Crop Mob raids 66 cities nationwide

It's hard not to wonder if crop mobs are a trend. Will interest be sustained? If so, how? I wonder, are there paid crop mob coordinators? Such a position is probably worth a salary, at least part-time. What business models might help the coordinator get paid?
