Emilyn Brodsky, The Prettitots, Tall Tall Trees

When: Thu., March 5, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
“I need to draw a paper-thin line/between bat-shit crazy and love of my life,” sings New York songwriter Emilyn Brodsky during one of the early irrepressible tunes from her 2014 LP, Emilyn Brodsky Eats Her Feelings. There’s an antifolk-like sense of candor to Feelings, where Brodsky blurts out sentiments and neuroses and divides tracks with voicemail memos from loved ones. But the tunes themselves work to push beyond self-conscious amateur status, with big arrangements and expertly rendered hooks. It’s like watching an awkward kid grow into a fully functional adult. Brodsky is a jarring talent in need of notice. —Grayson Haver Currin
