Action/Adventure

Matt Damon is all shaved, tatted up and ready for sci-fi action in the latest dystopian blockbuster from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp. Damon is a working stiff in 22nd-century Los Angeles who has always dreamed of living among the one percent in Elysium, a gated community in space. Although the scrambled plot, which eventually leads to an even more hectic climax, makes you understand why the sci-fi nerds have come down so hard on this film (man, those guys are so difficult to please!), Elysium still works as a pulse-pounding actioner. It's yet another futuristic flick in which the rich literally close themselves off from the rest of society, forcing the poor to revolt. In the end, audiences ask themselves one important question: Why isn't that happening now?
