Those who read her book Eat, Pray, Love, or watched the movie for that matter, might remember the love of Elizabeth Gilbert's life coasting in at the last third of her story. José (whose name was changed to Felipe in the fictionalized account to protect his privacy) was an expatriate living in Bali when he turned Gilbert's life upside down. Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace With Marriage tells what happened after the pair agreed to form a relationship that transcended time zones, and which ultimately landed them in trouble with Homeland Security. Gilbert uses the book to research what marriage truly is before she herself took the plunge into matrimony under unusual circumstances. Meet the author today at 7 p.m. for a reading and a signing of her new book. —Lauren Shute
