Elizabeth George

When: Sun., Oct. 20, 2 p.m. 2013
Elizabeth George is not British. She is from Ohio. She does not even have a British accent. That's fair warning for those who only know her work from the Inspector Lynley series shown on PBS' Mystery! in the United States. George's mysteries are set in England, and indeed they use the British class system as a backdrop for the investigations of the moneyed Lynley and the working-class Havers. In their latest case, Just One Evil Act, the stakes are high when Havers' friend's child is kidnapped, and citizen problems mean Havers and Lynley are on their own for the investigation. My parents are addicted to the TV series and have ordered me to keep this unspoiled for them (despite the series ending in 2008). They are also most happy I did an interview with George. George also appears at Quail Ridge Books on Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. for a signing line ticket event. —Zack Smith
