Eilen Jewell Band

When: Thu., March 24, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $10

Like Jolie Holland and The Be Good Tanyas, Boston's Eilen Jewell fashions laconic country swing that, though sepia in tone, still sounds plenty vibrant. Jewell's significantly broadened her sound across her half-dozen releases since 2005. She dipped into rockabilly and '60s pop for 2009's terrific Sea of Tears, then went full-on country for last year's Loretta Lynn tribute, Butcher Holler. Jewell has a way of leisurely caressing the lyrics to create an intimacy that follows her into the dark spaces where loss and leaving linger. Pay $10 at 8 p.m. Jewell will play two sets, with no opener.—Chris Parker
