Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, We Are Each Other - SOLD OUT

When: Fri., July 16, 9 p.m. 2010

A few years back, Magnetic Zeros frontman Alex Ebert had something of a spiritual collapse. He broke up with his girlfriend, moved out of his house, dumped his old band (major label power-pop clunker Ima Robot), joined a 12-step program and spent a year sleeping on a blow-up mattress in a miniscule Los Angeles apartment. He also started outlining the epic narrative of Edward Sharpe, a homeless, hipster Jesus figure come to save mankind. The mythology took a musical turn when Ebert met singer Jade Castrinos. They started writing together, and the resulting tunes, fleshed out by a co-ed chorus of conspirators, range from epic incantations of desert visions and sprawling 40-day dreamscapes to the blissful bounce of "Home," a free-spirited summer jam if there ever was one. With their '70s psychedelic gypsy folk-pop in tow, this band makes it clear that, though Edward Sharpe may be a visage, his message of hope and happiness is real. We Are Each Other opens the 9:15 p.m. show. It's sold-out, so show up early and ambitious. Ashley Melzer
