Ed Schrader's Music Beat, Heads on Sticks, Dead Girls

When: Fri., Nov. 13, 9:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $7
Baltimore weirdos Ed Schrader’s Music Beat navigate an especially turbulent zone of noise rock. The duo seems constantly on the verge of exploding: In one moment, the songs are rhythmic, almost jazzy, indulging in melodies that border on Devo’s nervy pop; in the next, they are lacerating and primal, Schrader and bassist Devlin Rice pushing their bass-and-drums-and-screaming skronk into paroxysms. The effect is jarring but invigorating. Live, Schrader is a hypnotic presence, a motor-mouthed megalomaniac delivering frantic, fractured weirdness at a breakneck pace. —Patrick Wall
