Earthling, Feast Upon Thy Brother, Squall

When: Thu., March 10, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: Free

From Harrisonburg, Va., punk-tinged metal band Earthling brings sped-up moshers with shredding guitars and shredded vocal chords. There's nothing Cookie Monster cliché about Alan Fary's death metal croak—his vocals are scary and expressive. Classic rock guitar tone and phrasing complement the heavy sound, as if Iron Maiden and Baroness traded gear. Opening the free 8 p.m. show are Feast Upon Thy Brother and Squall. —Corbie Hill
