Dynamo, Derrick Hodge

When: Thu., Oct. 15, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $22.50-$25
Lately, the jazz-stretching quartet Robert Glasper Experiment and the West Coast’s more hip-hop leaning artists like rapper Kendrick Lamar and composer Terrace Martin have helped usher new fans toward virtuoso jazz musicians like Christian Scott, Kamasi Washington, Chris Dave and Philadelphia bassist Derrick Hodge. On Hodge’s 2013 debut LP, Live Today, his documentary-scoring work and roles supporting R&B stalwarts such as Jill Scott and Maxwell seemed to have readied him for a nexus of jazz and incandescent soul music. The nine-member fusion act Dynamo shares the bill. —Eric Tullis
