Re: “John Temple's The Last Lawyer

It's nice to be told by the Indy that we, the readers, are responsible for misconstruing Sobsey. Rather than his own words.

To pretend this article is merely a book review attacking a poorly written book misses the point obvious to the commenters above. Sobsey has gone beyond a book and attacked an institution, a great lawyer, and a death row exonoree. The article is written as though he was privy to some special knowledge beyond the book.

Sorry if the editorial staff can't see it. It's obvious to us, the readers.

From calling mental retardation a "technicality", to suggesting that the folks at CDPL don't care about the clients, to the offensive suggestion that Bo Jones was not innocent, Sobsey has taken a position on the facts out in the world, not merely out in this book. In so doing, he has exposed himself to this due criticsm--criticsm for reporting untruth.

Re: “John Temple's The Last Lawyer

"The huge effort reveals that Jones' absolute human value to the CDPL is, like the true identity of the killer, fundamentally unimportant"

What offensive drivel. This article is written as though the author has some inside scoop on the mechanisms of death in this state. The truth is, he's just a "gotcha" journalism looking for a quick score with a pithy attack.

I've never met a single person who has interacted with Ken Rose that would want to assassinate his character in such an ignoble way. He's spent his life and all his energy fighting an (at times) hopeless fight to prevent the state from killing men on death row. He's treated his clients with the dignity that next to no one in this society gives them.

This article is libel. Maybe you guys should start doing a little research before publishing this trash.
