Durham Monster Dash

When: Fri., Oct. 26, 5:30-8 p.m. 2012

Downtown Durham—Don your best Halloween costume and wend your way through downtown Durham's streets, alleys and open spaces in the Durham Monster Dash. This charity walk and run includes a 3-mile course and a kid-friendly (less scary) 1-mile route dotted with "Monster Zones." With food trucks, music and costume prizes, it's a cultural event, but it's also a way to explore the city's urban landscape, architecture and design. The planning department is also using the dash to test downtown's walkability. Sponsored by the City-County Planning Department, the Monster Dash runs 5:30–8 p.m. and includes a "Thriller Dance" in front of City Hall, 101 City Hall Plaza. View the routes at durhammonsterdash.org, where participants can register and make a donation. All proceeds go to Girls Rock NC, Keep Durham Beautiful, The Scrap Exchange and KidZNotes. A WXDU-sponsored after-party starts at 8:30 p.m. at The Pinhook, 117 W. Main St. —Lisa Sorg
