Dum Dum Girls, Devin

When: Fri., Oct. 26, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $12-14

If you must call them something, call the Dum Dum Girls "garage rock." Their buzzing riffs and sugar-rush hooks certainly suggest the genre tag, as does the girl-group-from-hell style that the all-female foursome has on stage. But if this is garage, it's a more complex and constantly changing variation, making room for post-punk drone and touches of goth. The Girls also have a good ear for covers, both canny (Rolling Stones, The Smiths) and curatorial (Strawberry Switchblade's "Tree and Flowers"). Yes, they rock, but they do lots of other stuff, too. Devin opens the 9 p.m. show; tickets are $12 in advance, $14 day of show. —Brandon Soderberg
