Dub Destruction with Antiserum, BX & Tony Dubz, Heavy Heads FYI, Kure, Dirty Gypsy (Showroom)

When: Sat., Sept. 29, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $10

Over the summer, Stephen Levitin, or Apple Juice Kid, and The Beast's Pierce Freelon traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo. They teamed with the nonprofit Yole!Africa to establish a Beat Making Lab, where they taught 16 Congolese students how to produce and record. Their venture was an extension of UNC's Beat Making Lab, a course taught by Levitin, Freelon and Mark Katz, chairman of the UNC music department. It was also an extension of Apple Juice Kid and DJ FameAnon's commitment to global activism via interconnected bass lines and dance frequencies in The Beat Report. This night will be no different: As part of the N.C. Pride festival, the DJ duo pumps up the volume in the name of the GLBTQ community and anyone else who's down to get down. The 10:30 p.m. party is free. —Eric Tullis
