Dub Addis

When: Wed., July 10, 5:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

Ethiopian singer-songwriter Dereje Tesfaye moved to Los Angeles in his teens and got his first keyboard after attending an Aswad concert. The reggae sound and live energy enthralled him, so Tesfaye combined it with the music of his native city, Addis Ababa, built on the mystic sounds of pentatonic scales. Now a Durham resident, Tesfaye brings Dub Addis to open the "Wild Card Wednesdays" concert series, which runs through July on Koka Booth's Crescent Deck. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
