DSCVRY vs. Fooly Cooly, Gabriel Szatan

When: Fri., Aug. 22, 10 p.m. 2014
Price: $5

The premise behind this month's Discovery pits the regular Raleigh dance party against the short-lived anime series Fooly Cooly. Maybe that's only an inside joke to the guys producing these bashes, but count us intrigued. Guest DJ Gabriel Szatan was enough to guarantee interest, anyway. A music journalist by trade, Szatan is a vital pusher behind the beat-obsessed powerhouse, Boiler Room. He puts his curatorial and critical insight in motion when he jumps behind the decks, fusing things like Mr. Fox's "Party Track" with FKA Twigs or whatever else he might pluck from his wandering tastes. Anime and unexpected hybrids? Expect this Discovery to go places. —Eric Tullis
