Dragon Boat Festival

When: Sat., Sept. 27, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. 2014
Price: Free

KOKA BOOTH AMPHITHEATREAfter a mere, oh, 2,300 years, dragon boat racing finally makes it to Koka Booth Amphitheatre. The ancient Chinese folk tradition pits teams against each other to see who can make the fastest dragon-decorated, human-powered watercraft. In this first annual Dragon Boat Festival, presented by Asian Focus, Pan Am and other organizations, the paddling comes to the Amphitheatre's Symphony Lake, coinciding with similar events across the nation. Registration to participate is already closed, but there's plenty of food and family fun to be had watching elaborate boats slice through the water with an imaginary roar. 9 a.m.–4 p.m., free, 8003 Regency Pkwy., 919-462-2025, www.boothamphitheatre.com. —Brian Howe
