Dr Dog, Floating Action

When: Sat., April 9, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $16-18

There's a ne'er-do-well air that grounds Dr. Dog's beatific '60s pop. Like the Replacements being schooled by the Zombies, the ramshackle scuffle of dragging beats and world-weary vocals imbue the bright melodies with a deliciously bittersweet vibe realized in tour-scarred odes to road ghosts ("Shadow People"), impermanence ("Where'd All the Time Go?") and enduring regret (the title track to their album Shame, Shame). Songwriters Toby Leaman and Scott McMicken each possesses his own idiosyncratic flair. A recent addition, percussion prodigy Eric Slick, has taken the band's live shows to the next level. Floating Action opens. —Chris Parker
